About the Author

The name is Housewife, Literate Housewife.

You can also call me Jennifer. Anyway, with a healthy dose of inspiration from one of my favorite tweeps, I brought my dream of creating a Simon Vance audiobook challenge to life with Shaken, Not Stirred. I’ve wanted to do something like this ever since I’ve read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in audio. I became an instant fan of Simon Vance’s work and love to share it with others. There’s nothing I like more than to help someone discover how wonderful a reading experience can be with him behind the microphone.

Whether you’re as new to James Bond as I am or a long time fan, I hope you’ll decide to join me and have a good time along the way.

Feel free to contact me at any time by leaving a comment, via my Twitter account (@lithousewife) or by email at literatehousewife (at) gmail (dot) com.

About Simon Vance

Simon Vance is the winner of numerous Earphones Awards and four prestigious Audie® Awards, most recently for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest in 2011. Born in England, he has been narrating audiobooks for almost 30 years since beginning at the Royal National Institute for the Blind in London while working as a BBC Radio newsreader.  Besides narrating he continues to work occasionally on stage, TV and film.

You never know when Simon might have something to say. I think you’d enjoy following him on Twitter (@SimVan) and by adding his blog to your feed reader.

About the Blackstone Audio and the Audiobooks

Blackstone Audio, Inc., is the largest independent audiobook company in America. With exclusive focus on quality, Blackstone Audio uses the best narrators for the best recordings at the best prices. Blackstone Audio has more than 4,500 titles available in over two dozen categories and in numerous formats, with forty new titles added every month. You can follow them on Twitter as well (@BlackstoneAudio).

Blackstone offers fifteen James Bond titles written by Ian Fleming, and all are read by Audie Award-winning narrator Simon Vance, except for The Spy Who Loved Me, a story told from a woman’s point of view and narrated by Nadia May.

We will be reading the books in order of original publication. All of the audiobooks are published by Blackstone Audio and can be purchased directly from their website. They can also be downloaded via Audible.com. For the reading schedule, please see the Schedule page.

About the Movies

The order in which the James Bond feature films were created does not match the order in which the books were published. As a result, we may be jumping around from Bond to Bond along the way. It is my hope that this will make it a fun way to compare each of the actors who have portrayed our hero along the way.

Not too long after I decided to create this challenge around the James Bond novels, Netflix announced that they were adding all of the Bond films to their Instant Watch queue. I couldn’t have been happier. For those of you who are Netflix members, participating in the monthly Twitter viewing parties will be very simple. See the Schedule page for information on the dates for each viewing party.
